It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Oh my! How long has it been since I remembered I have a blog??? Too long!
It's currently Sunday night and I'm enjoying a glass of bubbles, and pretending that it's not Monday tomorrow! On the plus side I only have one more week of work before I have a whole 10 days off. Bring it on I say :)
A whole lot has happened since my last blog - new job, new schools - but the same old life/work /mum balance struggle. Not sure that will ever change, but it is what it is.
It's almost the end of 2017, and only a week out from Christmas. How exciting! Once upon a time I used to hate Christmas, but when you have kids you really are given a chance to make it fun and start your own traditions. One of ours is camping straight after Christmas every year.
This year we are trying out a new place which looks super awesome. And we aren't taking any motor bikes, just bicycles!! But it'll be a whole lot of fun, and we are all looking forward to some time away from home and spending time together without the pressures of work life, school life.. just everything in life really.
I've finished my Christmas shopping, parcels have been sent in the post, and everything is on track for a smooth, hitch free day. Not that it should be hectic anyway. It's just the 5 of us, having another low key Christmas. The plan is a picnic lunch at a park with time to run around and play. Maybe play some Frisbee, and just expend some energy all round.
We do look forward to Christmas. It really isn't about the presents for us, but the food, and family - even if it is just us! We don't have any family around these days.... but again, it is what it is. We make the most of things. Being thousands of kilometres away from everyone else means we have to.
But our tree is up, the presents are wrapped, Christmas movie watching is in full swing, and work is almost finished for the year. It's certainly beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Still breathing

I remembered just now that I have a blog. Crazy that I could forget....but here I am...still alive!
I'm just passing through for now, but I will be back sometime soon for a proper life update (if I remember).

Toodles!

Hello World

Wow. I've been an absentee from this blog for over a year. To be perfectly honest, I even forgot that I had a blog!

Not because I didn't have anything to write about - quite the opposite actually! It has been such a full on year that I wouldn't even know how to put it all into words.
Lets just say that it's been a year to remember!

A lot of my energy this year was focused on building our first home, which was a long and stressful process. Completely worth it in the end, but a learning curve also.
I realise now why many people choose to buy rather than build, and I'm not sure I would do it again in a hurry!

Work has also been a big contributing factor, along with trying to get the delicate balance of working and parenting right.
I can't say if I have the balance completely right, or if I ever will, but it is definitely a work in progress.

I have the day off today (one of four blessed days) and it is so stinking hot that I haven't achieved much. We are in the midst of a heatwave, with the days pushing 40 degrees some days lately.
I was planning to bake something, but that would mean I would have to be in the kitchen with the oven on so.... we will see!

Not a long blog post today. Just a quick check in to show that I'm still alive, and I haven't dropped completely off the radar!

Until next time (whenever that may be)!

Scones or scoooones?

We've been having such brilliant (and hot!) weather lately so I knew we were bound to have a crappy day thrown in there somewhere. That day being today. Well half of it anyway.
It was dreary and overcast this morning and it looked like it would stay that way for the rest of the day. So what does one do on a miserable day at home with the kids? One bakes of course!

We started off with a batch of scones. Myself and Master C donned our aprons and prepared to be covered in flour (and we pretty much were by the end, though not as much as the kitchen). Using terrific teamwork, we worked together to produce a brilliant tasting batch of scones, which we had for lunch.

It was a very well-to-do kind of lunch you know, with myself and Miss E debating on whether they were called scones (pronounced scons) or scoooooones.
I don't know if you've ever heard a 5 year old try to talk posh but it does tend to send one (or a few) into fits of giggles.
In the end we decided on the pronunciation of scones as scones, but nonetheless it was a very enjoyable Devonshire tea......

Miss E helped me bake gluten free vanilla cupcakes shortly after, though I'm afraid I must confess that I cheated this time and used packet mix. But hey, as long as the young ones enjoy themselves is all that matters right?

The sun burst out f the clouds after lunch and it was like it never left. We decided it was perfect park going weather and actually ventured out of the house for a while. After about a half hour of playing in the sun we decided it was just too hot and thought we'd all treat ourselves to Baskin Robins instead (splendid idea, obviously!)

All in all an enjoyable day!

I will upload the scone recipe soonish, as it's such a great recipe I just have to share :)

How we ended up at the hospital on a Friday night..... For no reason.......

I get so caught up in trying to juggle working full time and raising children that I seem to never find time to blog. Or if I do have time to myself I would rather sit and relax, (okay, more like do more housework), or catch up on some reading before bed.

But this little tale I just had to write about, for fear that it would one day be forgotten and I'd have nothing to laugh about. Actually, forget that, I WON'T be forgetting this little trip in a hurry......

It all started last night when I'd put the kids to bed at about 630pm. As usual, it didn't take Miss E and Miss C to go to sleep; they went out like a light.

Master C on the other hand decided that he would play in his bed for a little bit before actually going to sleep (the sneaky things kids do). So at around 7pm (when I thought he was sleeping) he ran out into the lounge room with an extremely concerned look on his face and informed me that he had swallowed some Lego. It had flicked into his mouth and gone down his throat.

Now I wasn't too concerned  about this because I know many kids swallow things and live to tell the tale. But I asked him some questions, like if he was breathing easily or finding it hard, or if he had any pain anywhere. He said no, so I gave him some water to make sure he could swallow it properly. He was fine, so I put him back to bed and told him to let me know if he starts having trouble breathing or if he starts to hurt anywhere.

After I put him back to bed, I sat down to the computer and googled cases of children swallowing lego to make sure there was nothing to be worried about. There were mixed stories. Some said as long as it's not a big piece and there's no breathing difficulties etc... to not be worried. Others said that it could be doing damage inside the body and get stuck somewhere because of sharp edges etc....

I still decided not to worry too much though, as long as I kept a close eye on him and made sure he was fine.

But yet again, not long after, Master C came out to me with a scared look on his face and said he was having trouble breathing and he had a pain in his belly. He seemed to be breathing fine to me, but I thought I would call 13HEALTH for some professional advice.

After explaining what had happened and told them his symptoms, they advised that it was best to take him to be seen due to the sharp edges lego have, and because he was complaining of a pain in his belly.

So I hung up the phone, woke the girls up, got them and Master C ready, and we all headed down town to the hospital. I didn't actually know where the hospital was at this point, but luckily it turned out not to be far from home.

We walked up to the counter in emergency and explained the situation, and then took a seat until someone could see us. We were in another hall waiting for an x ray when a doctor found us and said he would take a look at Master C.

He felt his belly, asked some questions etc... and deemed us fit to leave without needing an x ray. Apparently the lego most probably wouldn't show up on the x ray anyway, and since it was already in his belly than there was nothing too much to worry about. I got told to bring him back though if he started to bloat and/or had more pain.

So we left and went home, I put the kids back to bed and eventually went to bed myself. Master C woke up this morning happy, healthy and his usual self. Nothing to worry about!

However, this is not where the story ends. My dearest hubby was home today, so I decided to leave the kids with him whilst I ran some errands and did the shopping. I pulled back into the driveway this afternoon, and my dear little boy ran out as I was getting out of the car saying excitedly "Mummy, mummy ! I didn't swallow my lego, I found the piece, it was under my bed!" And then he ran back inside......

Now call me crazy, but would one not know if they had ACTUALLY swallowed something hard and sharp like, perhaps a piece of LEGO!

Yes one would think. I think perhaps he may have got more paranoid the more he though he had lego inside him, and so he thought he was feeling pain when he wasn't.

Needless to say it was not how I like to spend my Friday nights. And hopefully it doesn't happen again in a hurry.................

Where has the time gone?

No really, where?! I can't believe how long it's been since I've posted. And yeah I know, I always do this, promise I'll post soon and then not return for months!
But what busy 4 1/2 months it has been for us all!
Master C had a birthday, I got promoted we moved states over the Christmas period (another long road trip it was!) and got to spend Christmas with the family. And we now live in sunny Queensland. It's fabulous! We're all settled into our new house, and tomorrow is the last day of my 7 weeks holidays. Yep 7 weeks! It's been absolutely brilliant.
We have managed to pack a lot into these holidays too i.e, moving, numerous trips to visit family, trips to theme parks, exploring our new area etc.....
I'm actually kind of dreading going back to work. I suppose it could be just first day at a new job nerves though. It'll be good when I get settled in and get back into the swing of things.
The kids start at their new school in a little over a week. All three of them are in FULL TIME school this year. HALLLUJAH :)
Yes I must admit that it's a little bit sad that they are all growing up so quickly, but it's exciting too. It's amazing to think that a little over 6 years ago I was just your average teenager with not a care in the world. And now I have three beautiful children all in full time school, a career, a crazy but loving partner.... I'm right where I want to be right now and couldn't be more thankful.

On another note.... I just bought my first motorbike! I haven't had a ride yet, but I now have my learners and can't wait to give it a go. Hopefully nobody is on the road when I do... LOL :)

Been a while....

It's been a while since I posted. Slack much?! Just a little... Well we haven't been up to too much. Just work and home life, nothing too interesting. It's Master C's birthday next weekend, so I'm planning a little party for him. Well actually I'm paying for a little party for him that I won't have to set up or clean up after. It'll be at the Playshak (pretty smart right?), so he's looking forward to that.
I can't believe he'll be 6 though. My little man isn't so little any more :( Still small enough for squishy hugs though so I shouldm't complain. I dread the day my kids turn away from me when I try to hug them. Hopefully that's a looooong way off!

We head down to Tassie in a couple of weeks for a mini break, and to visit family and friends of course. I'm really looking forward to it. And am extremely excited to catch up with my sister and her family. It's been over a year and a half since I've been back so it should be a nice visit. I'll be sure to blog on my return.

Some happy snaps to leave you with.....
